===== Gianluca Della Vedova ===== I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistics, University of Milano-Bicocca. My research interests are in the field of algorithms and complexity theory. I am particularly interested in some problems in Computational Biology, such as the Multiple Sequence Alignment, Phylogeny Reconstruction, and Probe Selection for DNA arrays. I am leading a new project called ALiBio (short for Algorithms Library for Bioinformatics), which aims to be a building block for Bioinformatics programs. I am also involved with the Bioinformatics Research Group at the Department of Computer Science. I have worked on (and I am still loosely interested in) some problems related to the modular decomposition of graphs and hypergraphs, as well as the modeling of data bases by means of graphs. ==== Education ==== 2000: Ph.D. Computer Science (Università di Milano), thesis Multiple Sequence Alignment and Phylogenetic Reconstruction: Theory and Methods in Biological Data Analysis ([[http://www.statistica.unimib.it/~dellavedova/papers/thesis.pdf|pdf]]). 1995: M.Sc. Computer Science (Università di Milano), thesis Sequential and Parallel Algorithms for Graph Decomposition (in italian). ==== Appointments ==== 2005 - current: Associate Professor, Università di Milano-Bicocca 2001 - 2005: Assistant Professor, Università di Milano-Bicocca ==== Services ==== I am in the Program Committee of BIRDConf08. ==== Affiliations ==== Member of [[http://sigact.acm.org|SIGACT]]. ==== Complete Address: ==== ===Gianluca Della Vedova=== Dipartimento di Statistica\\ Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca\\ Edificio U7, via Bicocca degli Arcimboldi 8\\ 20126 - Milano (Italy)\\ \\ Office/Stanza: U7-2069\\ Phone/Tel.: +39 026448 5862\\ Fax: +39 0240700328\\ email: gianluca.dellavedova@unimib.it (Unless [[http://www.fsf.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html|unavoidable]], no Word, Excel or PowerPoint attachments)\\ jabber: gianluca.dellavedova@gmail.com\\ [[http://feeds.feedburner.com/GianlucaDellaVedova|RSS]] of my home page.
