My primary interest is sequence alignment with particular attention to the problem of aligning biological sequences.
I am currently working on the problem of predicting the exon-intron structure of a gene and its alternative transcripts. Alternative splicing is a fundamental mechanism of protein differentiation in eukaryotic organisms.
I have been working on the design and implementation of a software tool (ASPIC, Alternative Splicing PredICtion) that predicts the exon-intron structure of a gene from a set of ESTs (Expressed Sequence Tags) aligned to the genomic sequence, and I have collaborated to the design and development of its next release, named PIntron.
